may ending + bledfest

On the Cusp has been preparing 'echo' for release later this week so we had our first ever night-time meeting to fold almost a hundred issues and eat some cheeto's at Pemberley's kitchen table.
This is my favorite thing in the backyard right now; some of this wood in this pile got struck by lightning and is barkless.
My younger brother turned 15 a couple weeks ago.

When I visit Catie we race crosswords.
Choice spot for backyard reading + sunshine enjoying.

Then we went to Bled Fest, in Howell, MI, which is approximately 2 hours and 57 minutes away from Michigan City.
I can't remember what we were listening to at this point but I think it was Silverstein. Catie and I choose music by obeying the "passenger picks" rule, in which the passenger picks. My picks for the way there included a lot of throwback early 2000s Victory Records bands plus some Linkin Park and a few Cartel appearances. The way home included mostly the Early November, plus a mix from January and Underoath's Define the Great Line
As soon as we got there we realized that our friends Anthony and Evan from the Island of Misfit Toys  / Metaphysics were starting tour with Warren Franklin and Empire Empire, who was playing! So we hugged + chatted + watched and had fun times. Also Catie wants a Doritos shirt and she told me like five times. Get her one and win her heart, probably.
We saw a lot of shitty bands that probably a lot of people like but we don't, but then we saw a lot of our faves / friends / acquaintances / fellow chicagoans etc too like xerxes, twiabp, cut teeth, etc. The cool thing about Bled Fest was like, in the pit for Pianos Become the Teeth, I admired this dude's ponytail and then a few hours later he was fronting Good Weather for Airstrikes (which blew me away); that just as many bands were there that were really great and supporting each other as were uninteresting to me and which I could pretty easily just move away from. Also this local band I think, also I think in high school or newly out of it, called the Rival did a fucking amazing cover of Sabotage by the Beastie Boys which is one of my all-time favorite jams. Really regretted not having my camcorder for it because seriously it was fantastic.

One of many times the crowd for Painos just went nuts and climbed onstage to share vocals. Too fun.

We watched bands til like 6 and then decided our stomachs deserved what they were yelling at us about since we hadn't eaten since we left Indiana at 7 (besides some Pringles on the road); there were a lot of "headlining" bands playing that we weren't interested in so it was nbd.

As we ate the sandwiches and lemonade mom packed for us, this charter bus full of old people arrived and they all said their goodbyes to each other and packed their cars up with their suitcases. We got a lot of dirty looks and we didn't really get it; guess they don't like sandwiches? or maybe chips.

After resting a bit we went back inside just for the Early November's set. I've listened to them since the 7th grade and have only gotten to see them a couple times at Warped Tour; post-hiatus and for the first time in like, 5 years, I was too stoked. Truly didn't stop grinning the whole set. Catie and I just continually were "Oh my GOD"-ing at each other, it was so much fucking fun.

This was during the ultimate crowd vocals of Baby Blue "I don't want you to love me anymore" and then the ch ch ch ch cymbal etc, just best ever. Jeff, their drummer, is one of my heroes for his moves. So into it.

I used up the roll right before their last song/encore, but their bassist jumped into the crowd literally right on top of Catie and the kid right in front of me decided to follow; I ended up dropping my camera and had a minor 'oh chettttt' moment but it was all okay. So it goes!
The rest of these are trying to finish up the roll from my ae-1 this morning. The 50 pack of film I bought are all 36 exposure rolls, which is taking some getting used to. Impatience always.

Obligatory 'look at this dog.'
